"Pan?" It was little more than a whisper, but quite sufficient to arouse the attention of the daemon. Crouched at the foot of the bed and completely wrapped around itself, Pantalaimon opened his sleepy eyes. He saw the face of Lyra, because the blankets hid it, but he knew who was painting the expression on the face of his companion. It would have been exactly the expression that would take him if he had a human face.
